What is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition where certain areas of the skin become darker than the surrounding skin due to an excess production of melanin. This can happen for various reasons, including:
Sun exposure – UV rays stimulate melanin production, leading to sunspots or age spots.
Inflammation or injury – Skin trauma from acne, eczema, cuts, or burns can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
Hormonal changes – Conditions like melasma occur due to hormonal shifts, often seen during pregnancy or with birth control use.
Medical conditions or medications – Certain diseases or drugs can trigger dark
